The light comes back.
So does the floor.
Curtains come down. Windows get done. Cupboards get emptied onto the bed and half of it never goes back. Every September the whole house gets turned out — and then everyone gets to the rug, gives it a vacuum and a hopeful look, and moves on.
That is not laziness. Until fairly recently there was nothing else you could do with a rug. Twenty-two of the ones that just landed go in a washing machine and then a tumble dryer.
The one thing you could never clean
A rug is the only soft furnishing in the house you cannot put through anything. Curtains wash. Covers wash. Bedding washes weekly. The rug gets vacuumed, and once a year somebody suggests professional cleaning and nobody books it.
In the machine, then the dryer
Dolce, Feel, Pearl and Pablo — 22 rugs, factory tested at ten cycles at 40°C. Not hand-wash, not spot-clean. In the machine, out to the tumble dryer, back on the floor the same afternoon.
Or take it outside and hose it
Reduce and Refresh are woven from recycled PET for indoors or out. Hose them down on the grass, hang them over the wall, and they are dry by the time you have done the windows.
Where it actually matters
Under a dining table. In a kitchen. Anywhere a dog sleeps or a child eats. The places a good rug never used to be a sensible idea.
