Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday 27 November. Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November.
That is the answer most people are looking for, so it goes first. What follows is what to actually expect from the South African sales this year, and why we have stopped treating it as a single day.
When is Black Friday 2026?
Black Friday always falls on the Friday after American Thanksgiving, which is the fourth Thursday in November. In 2026 that puts it on 27 November, with Cyber Monday following on 30 November.
South African retailers have long since stopped confining it to that one day. Most run some form of extended promotion through November, and the better deals often appear well before the Friday itself rather than on it.
Black November and Black Friday: what is the difference?
Black Friday is a day. Black November is a month.
The practical difference matters more than it sounds. On a single-day sale the good stock goes in the first few hours, the website is slow, and you are making a decision about a large item under time pressure. Over a month, you can measure the room, see the colour in daylight, and visit a showroom before you commit.
For something you walk on every day and keep for a decade, that is a better way to buy.
What to expect from the rug sales this year
A few things worth knowing before you shop, whoever you buy from.
- Check what the "was" price actually was. A percentage is only meaningful against a price the item genuinely sold at. Some categories are discounted so routinely that the sale price is simply the normal price.
- Check the size before the price. The most common and most expensive mistake in rug buying is not overspending, it is buying too small. A rug that does not reach under the front legs of your furniture will make the room look smaller, whatever it cost.
- Check whether it is in stock. A sale price on something that ships in February is not much of a sale. Ask whether the retailer holds the stock or orders it in.
- Check the delivery terms. Free delivery thresholds, lead times and what happens if it does not fit are all worth reading before the 27th rather than after.
Our Black November
We open on 1 November and run to the end of the month, in all eight showrooms and online.
We are not announcing the prices yet, but we have been selling rugs for forty-two years and we do not put one on sale unless the saving is a real one.
Prices will be the same all month. There is no advantage to waiting for the 27th, and no penalty for buying on the 3rd. If you want to see it before it goes live, sign up and we will send it to you first.
And if you are shopping now rather than in November, you do not have to wait to pay less either — we have reduced rugs on the floor and online today.
Where to find us
Gateway, Umhlanga. Springfield, Durban. Hillcrest. Ballito Junction. Cresta in Randburg. Atterbury in Pretoria. Canal Walk in Cape Town. Matlosana Mall in Klerksdorp.
We deliver door to door anywhere in South Africa — free over R1,500, R149 otherwise, in 2 to 5 working days. PayJustNow is available in three payments.
Why we hold our own stock
Rugs Original has been selling rugs since 1984. Forty-two years, eight showrooms, and a warehouse we fill ourselves rather than ordering in against each sale.
That is the reason a rug bought during the sale ships that week rather than in the new year, and the reason we can stand behind a saving rather than advertise a percentage and sort out availability afterwards.
Black November opens 1 November and runs to the 30th
